Bill played acoustic guitar for happy hour at the nightclub "The
Library" in St. Armand's Circle, across the bay from Sarasota. My
trio, SRO-Standing Room Only, played there each night, Monday through
Saturday. We got the gig initially through the Hoekstra Agency in Miami. Another artist who played the same nightclub went into booking, and booked us, after our 2 weeks was held over for a total of 6 weeks at The Library on a Holland America ship cruise from New York to Bermuda, in summer of 1976. But before he would book us on the cruise ship, we had to take a paid audition at a resort run by the Marriott Corp on Amelia Island Plantation near Fernandina Beach, Florida; I got to play tennis on the same court where Chris Evert played the Family Circle professional tournament! (not that it helped my game) This picture was taken during a return engagement at The Library, after the cruise. So we spent a total of 3 months at this club, broken up by a week off the coast of Jacksonville, Florida and then a 6-week cruise in the summer. Oh, life was so hard that year. |

She danced at the local Greek restaurant; I went to see her dance, but I couldn't stay without ordering a meal. I was so naive that I was afraid to order, not knowing what anything was (it was all Greek to me....sorry), for fear I would get sick and not be able to play that night!) |
